There are many times when you figure out something on your own without being told what is happening. 

If you hear a fire alarm, you know that you have to get outside.

If you see someone skipping and smiling, you know that person is happy.

This is drawing a conclusion and making an inference. 

Inference is being able to work out and 

understand information without it being directly said.
